Head of Technology Procurement

Our client is a dynamic and ambitious global FTSE business, at the forefront of technology, and has an opening for a Head of Technology Procurement (Director Level). This is not a BAU IT procurement lead role and requires an experienced and innovative, senior-level IT procurement professional with commercial acumen, the ability to support with M&A activity and the ability to identify IT innovation.

The role will report to the CPO who, in turn, reports to the plc CFO and will be part of the senior Procurement leadership team. The role will also work closely with COO, CTO and CIO.

The opportunity:

You will build a small, high performing team to optimise 3rd party spend on all IT and Telecoms expenditure across the Group, through the creation of short/mid/long-term optimisation strategies aligned to the objectives of the business. This will include:

  • Engaging the IT community, and working, in partnership, as an integral part of the CIO office
  • Building a cutting edge knowledge of the supply base, providing informed insights to the IT community
  • Ensuring the right global commercial strategies are in place for the business
  • Support building the technology infrastructure for new market verticals
  • Helping accelerate M&A value delivery – how to go to market through competitions, equity stakes, etc
  • Bring new IT capability and IP to the business through structured incubators/accelerators
  • Understand critical areas for technology innovation and build a pipeline of IT innovation opportunities to be shared with the supplier community
  • Build a clear picture of global assets with opportunities for synergies and consolidations
  • Financial reporting of cost improvements on a P&L basis, interpreting cap-ex, op-ex, depreciation and cash flow

Skills and experience required

  • Senior level IT procurement professional with a solid track record in shaping IT/technology (software, hardware, cloud, outsourcing, applications development/management) procurement categories, preferably with experience of building digital strategies
  • Proven experience of building innovation capability e.g. technology innovation, building a function, etc.
  • Self-starter, excited by problem-solving and used to working in an agile and fast paced culture but can balance process with agility
  • Proven experience of influencing (NOT just responding to) C-level stakeholders
  • Exceptional commercial experience including strategy creation, implementation and benefit delivery
  • Experience in Total cost of ownership (TCO) modelling to define optimal cost structures
  • Able to build a matrix commercial IT community with alignment around value optimisation strategies
  • Excellent people and influencing skills across all levels of an organisation
  • Highly organised and ambitious
  • Graduate calibre/MBA
